Oi Pessoal !!! Preciso da ajuda de vcs, que sabem TUDO de U2.

Tenho uma apresentação no meu curso de Inglês em que é preciso falar tudo, tudo de uma música (história, banda, lançamento, interpretação, letra, como foi composta, etc). Como tem que durar 30 minutos... (acreditem... ) eu preciso do máximo de infomações possíveis.

Sei que o Wim Wenders pediu para o Bono escrever a música para o seu filme. E que o próprio Wenders dirigiu o vídeo clipe tb. Mas só isso... :/

Bom, como é para um trabalho de inglês vou digitar o que tenho sobre Stay em inglês mesmo, de alguns livros sobre o U2, okay?

Alguns trechos do U2 The Complete Encyclopedia:

"Stay (Faraway So Close): 4,58
The fifth track of the Zooropa album, released in 5th July 1993. It was recorded in Dublin in the spring of 1993. One of the outstanding tracks on the Zooropa album, it features excellent lyrics and vocals from Bono, and The Edge´s acoustic guitar impart a very laid back feel. The song had been comissioned by German film director Wim Wenders (who directed the "Red, Hot & Blue" U2 video) as the title track for his next movie, Faraway So Close. During the Zooropa tour, the song would be performed on the mini-stage, being the highlight of that section of the show. The live premiere of the song took place at the Stockholm Stadium in Sweden on 31st July 1993."

The promo video for Stay (Faraway So Close) was directed by Wim Wenders, who had previously directed U2 in their "Night & Day" video. It was shot mainly in Berlin around the famous Siegessaule Statue and in a club. The idea of the video was that Bono and the rest of U2 were playing the parts of angels who have come down to earth, as in Wim Wenders´movie Faraway So Close. The video has the unusual scene where a group are playing, with a female vocalist singing Bono´s part whilst Bono looks on. Then right at the end Bono "falls" from the sky and lands in the middle of a busy Berlin road.

PS.: a bela loira que canta como se fosse o Bono nesse video é a atriz e cantora alemã Meret Becker.

Segundo o site @U2, existe uma possível citação bíblica na letra de Stay, conforme abaixo:

"Stay (Faraway, So Close!)"

"Stay with the demons you drowned" -- Matthew 9:31-32: "The demons pleaded with [Jesus], 'If you drive us out, send us into the herd of swine.' And he said to them, 'Go then!' They came out and entered the swine, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea where they drowned."

Okay...Into the Heart...here it goes:

During the mid 80s, Bono had read one of Wim Wenders´ books, Emotion Pictures. Wenders wrote about the way in which the USA had colonized the unconscious of the rest of the world through popular culture. Bono was also reading Sam Shepard´s plays at the time. Shepard had worked on the screenplay of Paris Texas, with Wenders and when it came to making The Joshua Tree, U2 had in mind a landscape similar to that depicted in that extraordinary film.When Bono met Wenders, he metioned this. A byzarre synchronicity was revealed.

"He told me that when he was driving across America," Bono relates, "and preparing for Paris Texas, he was listening to Boy. He had just one cassette in the car and that was it."

Wenders and Bono established a firm friendship, so it was no surprise when the director asked the band to do the title track for his Stay (Faraway So Close!) movie.

The band watched the film and used it as a jumping off point for their own take on the theme. "The film was about angels who want to be human and who want to be on Earth, " Bono explains. "But to do so they have to become mortal. That was a great image to play with - the impossibility of wanting something like this, and then the cost of having it."

In Bono´s lyrics, it isn´t clear where the lines can be drawn between fanatsy and reality - if indeed they can be at all in the world of Zooropa. It isn´t clear whether the girl who stumbles out of a nightclub - "out of a hole in the ground" - into the grey morning is a stranger, a friend, a wife or a lover. Or if she´s just another image on screen, a chimera with whom the narrator presumes an intimacy that doesn´t exist.

The action happens in a curious dreamscape in which nothing seems certain except uncertainty itself. And yet the performance is full of languorous beauty, a gentle understated kind of emotion that seems at odds with the disorientation in the lyrics.

It ends with a start, Larry Mullen emphasizing the dowbeat on the cymbal as the dreamer suddenly sits up, staring into the black night, the image of a fallen angel burning in his imagination.

And a curious bang and clatter ringing in his ears.

Fábio, não esqueça de nos contar como foi a apresentação :) Lembro de uma que fiz no final do meu curso. Trabalhei com as três que falam mais diretamente da Irlanda, sobre "The Troubles": Sunday Bloody Sunday + Please + Peace on Earth. Foi tri legal pesquisar sobre elas e tentar explicar a conexão que vejo entre essas três composições. É claro que levei as três pra serem ouvidas pelos meus colegas...que, diga-se de passagem, só conheciam Sunday Bloody Sunday. Devo ter enchido o saco da maioria :rolleyes: , mas pelo menos uns 2 ou 3 se interessaram em conhecer mais sobre o U2, incluindo minha teacher...e isso já compensou...mais a nota que eu ganhei. :D
