Vejam só o review antecipado da NME (New Musical Express) britânica sobre as novas músicas...eu gostei (vou tentar fazer uma versão resumida em português)

'It's one of the most eagerly anticipated albums of the year, is set to be one of the biggest-selling and NME has heard it first: it's U2's new album 'How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb'. There are only two copies in the country but we got our hands on one of them.

The album, the band's 11th studio collection, is the follow-up to 2000's 'All That You Can't Leave Behind' and is an all-guns-blazing-guitar album produced by Steve Lillywhite. Because of a security lapse in the summer when a CD containing the record was lost or stolen from a photo session in France, security around the album is tight. However, NME managed to pull some strings to get a sneak preiew of an unmastered copy.

Out on November 22, 'How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb' is direct, loud and often heavier than their previous album, with a couple of songs big enough to shake stadiums. The first taste will come in the form of a single, 'Vertigo', released on November 8, but until then here's NME's exclusive track-by-track guide to the record.

'Vertigo' (3:07)
The first single, and as you'd expect, it's a corker. 'Vertigo' features a riff from The Edge as big as 'Beautiful Day', perfectly complementing Bono's cries of "Feeeel!" throughout the chorus. "Hello, hello, we're in a place called vertigo", he sings. It's an anthem, probable Number One single and an electrifying opening to the album.

'Miracle Drug' (3:54)
After the punky 'Vertigo', 'Miracle Drug' is much slower but still heavy. "Want to trip inside your head/Spend the day there", Bono croons. It's a love song with tribal drums and a massive guitar-led chorus. Could be a single.

'Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own' (5:02)
After two all-out rock numbers, 'Sometimes....' is the first ballad. Backed by simple chiming guitar and drums reminiscent of 'Where The Streets Have No Name', Bono sings "You don't have to put up a fight/You don't always have to be right....let me take some of the punches for you tonight". The feel is a lot like REM's 'Everybody Hurts'.

'Love and Peace or Else' (4:47)
An industrial growl and host of Nine Inch Nails-style noises hide Bono's whispering intro, before the song evolves into a clapalong, glammy chorus "Give me love and peace", Bono sings. It's the first hint of his political side, with references in to "troops on the ground". A thumping bassline makes it all sound a bit like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

'City of Blinding Lights' (5:44)
The second Big Stadium moment. Pretty piano opens the song, which sounds like an updated 'With or Without You', Bono's in reflective mood, singing, "The more you see, the less you know".

'All Because of You' (3:37)
'Achtung Baby'-era guitars back one of Bono's most confessional songs ever. "I'm not broke but you can see the cracks", he sings. The lyrics suggest that he may walk the corridors of the UN, meet with Presidents and be able to call the Pope on his mobile, but sometimes he'd just like to be simple old Paul Hewson.

'A Man and a Woman' (4:25)
If the first half of the record is direct, simple rock, from here on in it gets more chilled. 'A Man and a Woman' is the last of the straight-ahead rock numbers dealing with similar themes of lost love.

'Crumbs From Your Table' (4:57)
Compared to 'Vertigo' and 'All Because of You', 'Crumbs...' is one of the more understated songs on the album. Could probably have been a B-side.

'One Step Closer' (3:50)
An ambient-sounding track their old producer Brian Eno would have been proud of is the stand-out song on the second half of 'How to Dismantle...'. Bono's dejected, or in his words has "crossed the road from hope", but is resigned to his fate. "A heart that hurts is a heart that beats", he sings. It'll be the lighters-in-the-air moment on next year's stadium tour.

'Original of the Species' (4:33)
In keeping with the calmer mood of the second half of the album, 'Original...' has subtle, cinematic strings backing a pretty piano. It builds into an epic ballad which is classic U2.

'Yahweh' (4:20)
The title is the transliteration of the Hebrew word for the name of God, so it's appropriate what the closing song is a plea for peace. "Take these hands, don't make a fist", Bono sings, "take this mouth, give it a kiss".

'Fast Cars' (bonus track)
Unlikely to appear on the UK version of the album, this track is currently slated for inclusion on the Japanese pressing only. That's a tragedy for UK U2 fans as it's by far the most exciting song here. With a distinct Middle Eastern influence in the music, it's also where the line 'How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb' comes from. NME says: put this track on the UK album!

NME verdict:
For fans looks for that classic U2 sound, 'How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb' is well worth the wait. Some strong tracks - particularly on the early part of the album - guarantee this will be a massive-selling record and will set them up for some monster live shows next year.'

Pelo que eu entendi não será um U2 da primeira fase, da segunda ou da terceira. Será um compêndio do U2. Tudo ao mesmo tempo agora. O crítico fala em With or Without You, Where the Streets, Nine Inch Nails, REM, as letras corrosivas do Bono ("The more you see, the less you know").

Review da NME para How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb

É um dos álbuns mais esperados do ano, espera-se que esteja entre os mais vendidos, e NME ouviu primeiro: é o novo álbum do U2, How To Dismantle Na Atomic Bomb. Só existem 2 cópias no país, e nós conseguimos pôr a mão em uma delas.

O álbum, o 11o. da coleção de álbuns de estúdio, é a seqüência para All That You Can´t Leave Behind, de 2000, e é um álbum de guitarras incendiárias produzido por Steve Lillywhite. Por um lapso no verão passado, quando um CD contendo a gravação foi roubado de uma sessão de fotos na França, a segurança em torno do novo álbum foi reforçada. Contudo, NME conseguiu puxar alguns cordões para dar uma espiada prévia em uma das cópias.

A ser lançado em 22 de Novembro, How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb é direto, som alto, e mais pesado dos que seus antecessores, com algumas canções grandes o bastante para sacudir estádios. A primeira prova virá na forma do single Vertigo, a ser lançado em 8 de Novembro, mas até lá vocês têm esse guia exclusivo faixa-a-faixa da NME.

Vertigo (3:07)
O primeiro single, e como esperado é excelente. Vertigo apresenta um riff criado por The Edge tão grande quanto Beautiful Day, que complementa perfeitamente os apelos por “Feeel!” (ou sentir) de Bono durante o refrão. “Hello, hello, we´re in a place called Vertigo” (olá, olá, estamos num lugar chamado Vertigo), ele canta. É um hino, provável single número 1 e uma música eletrizante para abrir o álbum.

Miracle Drug (3:54)
Depois da punk Vertigo, Miracle Drug é bem mais lenta, mas ainda assim pesada. “Want to trip inside your head/Spend the day there” (quero viajar por dentro de sua mente, passar o dia por lá), Bono canta. É uma canção de amor, com batidas tribais e um refrão maciçamente guiado pela guitarra. Poderia ser um single.

Sometimes You Can´t Make It On Your Own (5:02)
Depois de dois números totalmente rock, Sometimes...é a primeira balada. Amparado por simples guitarras repicantes e bateria que lembra Where the Streets Have no Name, Bono canta “You don´t have to put up a fight/You don´t always have to be right...let me take some of the punches for you tonight” (você não tem sempre que puxar briga, você não tem que estar sempre certo(a), deixe-me levar alguns socos por você essa noite). O sentimento é bem parecido com Everybody Hurts, do REM.

Love and Peace or Else (4:47)
Um rosnado industrial e um monte de barulhos no estilo de Nine Inch Nails escondem a introdução sussurrada de Bono, antes que a canção evolua para um refrão glamouroso, de acompanhar com palmas, “Give me love and peace” (me dê paz e amor), canta Bono. É a primeira insinuação sobre seu lado político, com referências a “troops on the ground” (tropas no terreno). Uma linha de baixo vibrante faz com que ela soe um pouco como Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

City of Blinding Lights (5:44)
O segundo momento próprio para grandes estádios. Um belo piano abre a canção, que soa como With or Without You atualizada, Bono em um estado de espírito reflexivo, cantando, “The more you see, the less you feel.” (quanto mais você vê, menos você sente)

All Because of You (3:37)
Guitarras da era Achtung Baby amparam umas das canções mais intimistas de Bono até hoje. “I´m not broke but you can see the cracks” (não estou partido, mas você ver as rachaduras), ele canta. A letra sugere que ele pode andar pelos corredores da ONU, encontrar com presidentes e ser capaz de telefonar para o Papa de seu celular, mas às vezes ele gostaria de ser o velho e simples Paul Hewson.

A Man and a Woman (4:25)
Se a primeira metade do disco é direta, simplesmente rock, de agora em diante fica mais obscura. A Man and a Woman é a última das canções de rock diretas lidando com temas similares de amores perdidos.

Crumbs From your Table (4:57)
Comparada com Vertigo e All Because of you, Crumbs...é uma das canções menos importantes do álbum. Poderia provavelmente ter sido um lado B.

Ones Step Closer (3:50)
Uma faixa com som ambiente que o velho produtor da banda, Brian Eno, ficaria orgulhoso, é o ponto alto da segunda metade de How to Dismantle.... Bono está desanimado, ou em suas palavras “has crossed the road from hope” (cruzou a estrada da esperança) está resignado com seu destino. “A heart that hurts is a heart that beats” (um coração que dói é um coração que bate), ele canta. Será o momento de isqueiros acesos no estádio, na turnê do ano que vem.

Original of the Species (4:33)
Mantendo o clima mais calmo da segunda metade do álbum, Original...um arranjo de cordas sutis e cinematográficas fazem suporte a um belo piano. Cresce até se transformar numa balada épica, bem clássica do U2.

Yahweh (4:20)
O título é a transcrição da palavra hebraica para o nome de Deus, então é apropriado que a canção que fecha o álbum seja um apelo pela paz. “Take these hands, don´t make a fist” (aceite essas mãos, não feche o punho), Bono canta, “Take this mouth, give it a kiss” (aceite essa boca, dê-lhe um beijo).

Fast Cars (bonus track)
Pouco provável de estar na versão do álbum para o Reino Unido, essa faixa atualmente está prevista para inclusão na versão japonesa apenas. É uma tragédia para os fãs britânicos do U2, porque é de longe a canção mais excitante do álbum. Com uma marcante influência da música do Oriente Médio, é também de onde saiu a frase “How to dismantle and atomic bomb” que dá nome ao álbum. NME apela: ponham essa faixa no álbum britânico!

O veredito da NME:
Para os fãs a espera daquele som clássico do U2, valeu à pena esperar por How to Dismantle and Atomic Bomb. Algumas faixas fortes – principalmente na primeira parte do álbum – garantem que esse disco será um sucesso estrondoso de vendas e preparará a banda para alguns fenomenais shows ao vivo no ano que vem.

Concordo. Achei a foto meio Achtung Baby, adorei - mas não condiz com o título. Talvez ela devesse ficar no encarte, ou no verso do cd, mas a capa tem que ter mais impacto. Claro que se essa for definitiva eu não vou reclamar :D

U2 as garage band. Over power chords, Bono sings about boys who play rock and roll.
Adam Clayton: "It was originally called Native Son and had a very different feel. Bono and Edge rewrote it when we started work with Steve Lillywhite. The bass and drums have a little bit of Echo & the Bunnymen in there - a nice wink to where we came from."

'Miracle Drug'
The sort of wide-eyed anthem that should by now carry a U2 patent.
Bono: "It started off being about the Irish writer Christopher Nolan, who was at our school (Nolan, who was born with cerebral palsy, won the 1988 Whitbread Prize for his autobiographical novel 'Under The Eyes of the Clock'). But in a more oblique way it's probably as much about Aids and the drugs developed to arrest it. I couldn't write specifically about that without feeling an idiot."

'Sometimes You Can't Make it On Your Own'
Bono on his father's death. As stately and emotive as One.
Bono: "There's a line, 'You're the reason I have the operas in me.' My old man was a beautiful tenor. He was this working-class guy who loved opera. He used to sit conducting the stereo with knitting needles."

Love and Peace or Else
As close as U2 have come to being Led Zeppelin
The Edge: "I'm delighted about this one. It's been around since the last record. All we had was an amazing keyboard part of Brian (Eno)'s and a rhythm section Larry and Daniel (Lanois) had worked up. I fought for hours trying to figure out what to do with this fantastic raw track. We cracked it this time."

City of Blinding Lights
Back to the wide-open terrain of The Unforgettable Fire, via a vintage Edge motif.
Bono: "It's a New York song. About going there for the first time. We were the first band to play Madison Square Gardens after 9/11. During Where the Streets Have No Name the house lights came up and there were 20,000 people in tears. It was beautiful."

All Because of You
Three minutes of gleeful stomping and a likely single. Sample lyric: "I like the sound of my own voice."
Adam Clayton: "Often when we have something which is straight rock it never goes anywhere - we just keep churning it around. But this was one or two takes."

A Man and a Woman
Motown by way of The Rolling Stones' 'Waiting on a Friend'
Bono: "The sound of sitting on a stoop in New York in the summer. I wanted a song that rolled up The Clash and Marvin Gaye into one."

Crumbs from Your Table
The Edge breaks out I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For's ringing guitar. Bono rails at the Aids crisis.
Bono: "I went to speak to Christian fundamentalist groups in America to convince them to give money to fight Aids in Africa. It was like getting blood from a stone. I told them about a hospice In Uganda where so many people were dying they had to sleep three to a bed. Sister Anne, who I mention in the song, works at that hospice. Her office is a sewer."

One Step Closer
Bono ponders the meaning of death over a hushed backdrop
Bono: "Noel Gallacher gave me that line. We were in Birmingham on the last UK tour. I was telling Noel that my old man had lost his faith and didn't know where he was going. And Noel just said (adopts passable Mancunian drawl), Well, he's one step closer to knowing, isn't he?"

Original of the Species
A strident torch song. Contains the lines, "Some things you shouldn't get too good at/Like smiling, crying and celebrity."
The Edge: "The last time I cried was listening to that song. It was a song Bono started on the last record about my daughter Holly. He's her godfather. The lyric became more universal. About being young and full of doubt about yourself. He probably won't agree, but I think it has connotations for Bono, looking back to when he was 20."

Yahweh
Quintessentially U2 - from soaring chorus to a title that co-opts the Hebrew word for God.
Bono: "I had the idea that no one can own Jerusalem, but everybody wants to put flags on it. The title's an ancient name that's not meant to be spoken. I got around it by singing it. I hope I don't offend anyone."

Fast Cars
Bizarrely, U2 come on like the house band in a Morrocan bazaar.
Bono: "We did this on the very last day in the studio. It was really just for fun, but it came out so well it'll be an extra track on the record in some countries."

E entre tantas revelações/detalhes importantes nessa entrevista, esse foi o que mais me intrigou, a revelação de que a bomba atômica tão falada seria ele mesmo, Bono:

Bono says he is the atomic bomb referred to in the album's title. On 21 August 2001, he was at his father Bob Hewson's bedside when he died. It's a subject he mines for two of the record's best tracks - Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own and One Step Closer. On the former he sings, "It's you when I look in the mirror/It's you when I pick up the phone." When Bono speaks about his father he does so haltingly. It is the only time he breaks eye contact.

"A bomb went off when my old man died and I had no idea how to deal with it," he says. "If I'm honest, I've been running away from it for the past two years.

Pensando nisso. Nós (fãs) sempre queremos mais e mais de nossos ídolos e não nos importamos, de certa forma, com o que eles sentem. Lendo esse material que a Maria ressaltou constatei que realmente o próximo álbum vai transmitir muito a emoção que o Bono teve ao perder seu pai.

Acho que a bomba a que ele se refere é de certa forma não ter mais as raízes, perder a figura símbolo familiar e ter que carregar esse sentimento e saber como lidar com ele.

U2 soa como banda de garagem. Tendo como base acordes de peso, Bono canta sobre garotos que tocam rock and roll.
Adam Clayton diz: “Originalmente chamava-se Native Son e passava um sensação bem diferente. Bono e Edge reescreveram-na quando nós começamos a trabalhar com Steve Lillywhite. O baixo e bateria tem um pouquinho de Echo & The Bunnymen – uma simpática piscadela para o lugar de onde viemos.”

O tipo de hino acachapante que deveria, de agora em diante, levar a patente “U2”.
Bono: “Iniciou por ser uma música sobre o escritor irlandês Christopher Nolan, que estudou conosco (Nolan, que nasceu com paralisia cerebral, ganhou o prêmio Whitebread em 1988 por seu romance autobiográfico “Under The Eyes of the Clock”). Mas de uma forma mais velada é também sobre a AIDS e as drogas criadas para combatê-la. Eu não poderia escrever de forma específica sobre isso sem me sentir um idiota.”

Bono, falando sobre a morte de seu pai. Tão majestosa e emotiva quanto One.
Bono: “Existe um verso, “You´re the reason why I have operas in me.” (Você é a razão pela qual tenho operas em mim). Meu velho era um belo tenor. Ele era um cara tipo classe operária que amava a ópera. Ele costumava sentar-se e ficava lá, regendo o aparelho de som com agulhas de tricô.”

Love and Peace or Else
O mais próximo que o U2 já esteve de ser Led Zeppelin
The Edge: “Estou encantado com essa música. Ela anda por aí desde o último disco. Tudo o que tínhamos era um teclado magnífico criado pelo Brian Eno, e um arranjo rítmico trabalhado por Larry e Daniel Lanois. Eu lutei por horas tentando descobrir o que fazer com essa faixa crua tão fantástica. Dessa vez nós conseguimos.”

City of Blinding Lights
De volta ao terreno de imensos espaços abertos de The Unforgettable Fire, através de um tema clássico criado por Edge.
Bono: “É uma canção sobre New York. Sobre estar lá pela primeira vez. Nós fomos a primeira banda a tocar no Madison Square Garden depois do 11 de Setembro. Durante Where the Streets Have no Name, as luzes foram acesas e havia 20.000 pessoas em lágrimas lá. Foi lindo.”

All Because of You
Três minutos de pura euforia e muito provavelmente um single. Amostra da letra: “I like the sound of my voice.” (Eu gosto do som da minha voz).
Adam Clayton: “Freqüentemente, quando compomos algo que é rock puro nunca chegamos a lugar nenhum – ficamos apenas remexendo na coisa. Mas essa foi feita em um ou dois takes apenas.”

A Man and a Woman
Uma música ao estilo de “Waiting on a Friend”, dos Rolling Stones
Bono: “É o som de estar sentado em uma varanda em New York no verão. Eu queria compor algo que juntasse The Clash e Marvin Gaye em uma canção só.”

Crumbs from Your Table
The Edge surge com o som da guitarra de I Still Haven´t Found What I´m Looking For. Bono protesta contra a crise da AIDS.
Bono: “Eu fui conversar com grupos de cristãos fundamentalistas nos Estados Unidos, para convencê-los a doar dinheiro para lutar contra a AIDS na África. Foi como tirar sangue de uma pedra. Eu contei a eles sobre um sanatório em Uganda onde muitas pessoas estavam morrendo, e elas tinham que dormir três em cada cama. Irmã Anne, que eu menciono na música, trabalha nesse sanatório. O consultório dela é um esgoto.”

One Step Closer
Bono pondera sobre o significado da morte sobre um pano de fundo silencioso
Bono: “Noel Galagher me deu esse verso. Estávamos em Birmingham em nossa última turnê no Reino Unido. Eu estava dizendo ao Noel que o meu velho tinha perdido a fé e não sabia para onde estava indo. E Noel disse simplesmente (imitando a forma de falar de Noel), “ bem ele está a um passo mais perto de saber, não está?”

Original of the Species
Uma estridente canção de amor não correspondido. Contém os versos “Some things you shouldn´t get too good at/Like smiling, crying and celebrity” (Você não devia ser bom demais em certas coisas/Como sorrir, chorar e celebridade)
The Edge: “A última vez em que chorei foi ouvindo essa música. Foi uma canção que Bono começou no último disco, sobre minha filha Holly. Ele é o padrinho dela. A letra se transformou em algo mais univesal. Sobre ser jovem e cheio de dúvidas sobre si mesmo. Ele provavelmente não vai concordar, mas eu acho que tem conotações para Bono, ao olhar para trás, quando ele tinha 20 anos.”

Yahweh
Essencialmente U2 – de um refrão crescente, que se eleva, para um título que utiliza a palavra em Hebreu para Deus.
Bono: “Eu tinha a idéia de que ninguém pode ser o dono de Jerusalém., mas todos querem pôr suas bandeiras lá. O título é um nome muito antigo, que não pode ser falado. Eu contorno essa situação ao cantá-lo. Espero não ofender ninguém.”

Fast Cars
Bizarramente, U2 entra em cena como a banda da casa de um bazar em Marrocos
Bono: “Criamos essa música no nosso último dia de estúdio. Na real foi só por diversão, mas acabou ficando tão boa que será uma faixa extra do disco em alguns países.”

Eu ia postar mas nao tive tempo, teve um montao de gente que disse q vertigo era um máximo e que axavam que o album ia ser super legal relacionado com a politica e tals. :D ;) ... Mas tambem tiveram aqueles incultos que postaram qualquer besteirol e deu vontade de mandalos a m**** :vaisef: , disseram que nao deve misturar politica e musica e que o U2 era sei que lá...ah...só de ver o avatar dessa gente estupida ja... ahhhh, que raiva... >:( :vaisef:

Achei bem interessante um entrevista que o @U2 divulgou com o fotógrafo Perou, autor daquela foto da Blender (os quatro dentro d´agua, Larry sem camisa).

Ele conta que a foto foi tirada na praia em frente à humilde morada do Bono e Edge na França, ao pôr do sol, enquanto o novo álbum detonava em alto e bom som de dentro da casa, e que isso é o que ele entende por uma boa sessão de fotos :sim: Ele também contou que a idéia do Larry tirar a camisa partiu de quem? do Bono :D Ele se mostra encantado com a atenção e gentileza deles que, ao final da sessão, fizeram questão de vir ao encontro do fotógrafo e equipe pra agradecer, coisa que ele considera incomum nesse meio.

intertessante foi abrir o jornal A Tarde daqui de Salvador e ver uma pagina inteira dedicada ao novo album do u2, a vertigo e ao engajamento político de bono. legal é que ao contrário da reportagem de crítica que o jornal fez ao u2 quando no lançamento do atyclb, desta vez a reportagem foi super informativa e elogiou bastante o trabalho de anos da banda.
é, esse album será atomico mesmo.

Realmente eu sei que eles não tem influencia nenhuma diante dos preços dos CD's , mas depois fica difícil culpar os downloads.
É muito cara 25 ou 30 reais um cd aqui no Brasil, imaginem 60.
É duro, eu lembro quando paguei 45 no Elevation... doeu no bolso.

Eu acho que vai sair na entre 25 e 35 reais, claro que vai ter lugar bem mais caro, mas tenho certeza que eles não vou por esse cd mais caro do que 15 dolares.

É inaceitável.Pela primeira vez nós fizemos um disco que gostamos, o que poderia significar o fim da nossa banda. Pois normalmente nós achamos as músicas e, quando nós saímos para tocá-las é que nós entramos nelas. Nós temos sempre que achar alguma boa razão pra sair de casa. Nós todos temos belas casas e família e amigos e é difícil partir. Thindering bass from Adam Clayton, jagged guitar and a punkish riff that suggests they haven't ignored the rise of The Strokes et al in the three years since ATYCLB. The Edge's guitar takes up a ringing, ascending motif, it's clearly some kind of love song, although lyrics such as, "love and logic keep us clear, reason is on our side" might have been lifted from a Scientology manual.

SOMETIMES YOU CAN'T MAKE IT ON YOUR OWN
Written for Bono's father and sung at his funeral. Like a companion for 'One', it starts slow and hauntingly but builds dramatically, until Bono breaks into a shimering falsetto: "It's you when I look into the mirror". It ends in a crescendo of visceral emotion before being stripped back down to a heartbeat. Both uplifting and heart-rendering, and despite the personal nature of the subject the effect is universal.

LOVE AND PEACE OR ELSE
U2's own Middle East peace initiative, apparently, with lyrics telling the "daughters of Zion" and "sons of Abraham" to "lay down your guns". Musically there's so much happening: it starts with a rumbling, half-hearted sound like distant gunfire before a raw blues riff takes over, The Edge eventually pusing it into the realm of heavy metal. Then it ends with some martial drumming from Larry Mullen and spiraling guitar, as Bono repeatedly intones, "Where is the love?"

CITY OF BLINDING LIGHTS
At almost six minutes, the longest track on the album. It opens with guitar effects and surprisingly, tinkling keyboard melody before the rhythm builds into something more insistent, beautiful but slightly sinister. Blessed with one of those great, whoosing, "whoa-whoa-whoa" choruses and an irrepressible hook. ("Oh you look so beautiful tonight in the city of blinding lights"), much of the rest of the lyric ("the more you see the less you kno") has a similarly Zen quality to George Harrison's "The Inner Light".

ALL BECAUSE OF YOU
With a guitar riff somewhere between "Jumpin' Jack Flash" and The Who's "Substitute", the most '60s sounding U2 since "Gloria", complete with freak-out guitar coda. And is the touch of self mockery as Bono sings, "I like the sound of my own voice, I didn't give anyone else a choice"?

A MAN AND A WOMAN
Opens with acoustic guitar and vibrating bass, then adds strings and becomes a floating ballad with a luminous, summery chorus. "I could never understand the mysterious distance between a man and a woman," Bono croons a song that sounds as though it should be a theme to an epic Hollywood movie.

CRUMBS FROM YOUR TABLE
A gentle opening with a strummed acoustic guitar and chiming harmonies gives way to a tyipical mid-tempo U2 riff. The subject matter is weighty and lines such as "would you deny for others what you demand yourself?" and "where you live should not decide whether you live or whether you die" would appear to have been inspired by Bono's campaign against third world debt.

ONE STEP CLOSER
Starts with an ethereal wash of sound and develops into a mellow rock ballad with a wasted, late-night vocal. The moody production recalls Lanois (although it isn't) and there's touch of the Mercury Rev school of Americana, even before the pedal steel comes in. "I'm on an island in a busy intersection", Bono sings at one point in a moody lyric that finds him stranded "around the corner from anything that's real". About as intimate as U2 gets.

ORIGINAL OF THE SPECIES
If George Martin produced U2, it might sound something like this, with it's "I Am The Walrus" strings and Beatlesque ambience. "Baby slow down, please stay a child in your heart," Bono sings in an intriguing lyric.

YAHWEH
A rock'n'roll prayer, with chiming guitars full of spiritual metaphors, as Bono invokes God by his ancient Hebrew name, imploring him to mend the world and restore us to grace

FAST CARS
U2 do world music on a Japan-only track destined to become a collector's item - an exotic, semi-Arabic beat with a touch of flamenco.»

It's the 27th floor of London's Centre Point - one of the city's
tallest structures. Security is tight with the insistence that all
potential recording devices are left in lockers on the ground floor.
The room is decked out like a nightclub with low, red lighting and
speakers mounted in every direction. It's the U2 playback. No
expense spared.

Manager Paul McGuinness introduces the record to a small number
gathered from national press. Tomorrow, the whole affair will be
repeated for regional press and on Thursday, for TV and Radio.

McGuiness starts by talking about the band's label. "It's odd to be
on such good terms with the record company. Of course, there's
always a little pushing and shoving, but it's great to have all the
records in one place and not be squabbling with former labels over
best ofs. The people at Island are the smartest in the business and
the most fascinating thing over the last 25 years is that they
continue to do their best work."

On U2 and the forthcoming album, he says, "The band have become more
and more ambitious. Yes, the albums get longer and longer to make."

He continues, "London is the centre of the musical world, mostly
because of the paranoia it induces and the savage criticism. We are
as scared of that as we always were."

How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb - Preview:

On first listen, this is an entirely different record to 2000's All
That You Can't Leave Behind, in fact, there appears to be no natural
progression between the two. The relative calm, assured and complete
tones of the former album have been usurped by a more consistently
upbeat slab of work. The majority of tracks on HTDAAB swagger with
uptempo melodies and adventurous guitar lines, probably resembling
something more similar to 1997's Pop.

And, as is typical of a U2 album on first listen, the melodies and
song structures are not entirely discernible. No doubt a few plays
will correct that, but for the time being, only Miracle Drug, Love
And Peace Or Else, All Because Of You and Original Of The Species,
are the instantly accessible tracks.

The others: Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own, City Of
Blinding Lights, A Man And A Woman, Crumbs On Your Table, One Step
Closer and Yahweh appear to have almost confused, ramshackle song
structures that demand more patience from the listener. Undoubtedly
these will become the album's masterpieces.

While HTDAAB is standard U2 fodder, it is more appealing that the
band has not settled for a remake of ATYCLB and has instead created
something that could be described as a cacophony of the best in U2
sounds, and how they vary: HTDAAB incorporates shreds of so many
brilliant and familiar moments from the past - Bono's urgent vocals
from War re-surface, the atmospherics of The Unforgettable Fire are
ever-present, the adventure of Achtung, Baby! and the dirty
distortion of Pop all seem to have been wrapped up, dismantled, and
wrapped up again in that intricate bomb that is U2's distinct sound.

Track by track:

Vertigo:
First single. U2 return the glory days of the early 80's when it was
all confidence and style over content. The riff from October's Two
Hearts Beat As One used in the middle eight will excite the most
ardent U2 fans.

Miracle Drug:
Edge digs up the guitar sound that is synonymous with the Joshua
Tree, while the ending has the rousing drums that first appeared on
U2's slight foray into hard rock on Exit. Begins downtempo, but in
true U2 fashion, rouses before too long.

Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own:
Slow ballad that again, invokes sounds more familiar on Joshua
Tree's Where The Streets Have No Name. An honest, heartfelt ballad
that drops rather unexpectedly to a sinister minor key two thirds of
the way in.

Love And Peace Or Else:
Bono and Edge's love of Bowie and Stooges, plus Larry Mullen's
continued Ramones influence is plastered all over this track.
Reminiscent of Mofo on Pop, it flaunts distorted basslines and
dampened drums, yet manages to be simultaneously progressive.

City Of Blinding Lights:
Sounds as though it is a lost track from 20 years ago that could
have appeared on The Unforgettable Fire - this is mainly owed to the
production that seems to have Daniel Lanois written all over it. Not
a particularly obvious song, but one that has the potential to be a
U2 classic.

All Because Of You:
This is undoubtedly one of the most obvious and accessible tracks on
the album. It arrives with a warning bell sound and proceeds to kick
in like Pop's Discoteque. Pure swagger and rock 'n' roll. U2 at
their finest.

A Man And A Woman:
The vocals on this sound as though they were recorded in 1983 for
War. How Bono has managed to pull this off after ageing 20 years is
beyond belief. The combination of this and the acoustic guitar sends
flashbacks of War's Drowing Man, however, the incredibly slick
production serves to remind us that this is, after all, 2004.

Crumbs From Your Table:
Maybe one of the slightly weaker songs, this is modern U2 which is
almost as adventurous as Achtung, Baby! and at times, sounds a
little like Mysterious Ways. The breakdown at the end, however, is
stunning.

One Step Closer:
Very traditional downtempo, atmospheric classic U2 number.

Original Of The Species:
Very accessible, pop melody that isn't too far removed, in some
senses from mid-career Beatles. It's a love ballad that could have
featured on All You Can't Leave Behind.

YahWeh:
Huge chiming guitars, incredibly uptempo song that seems to be
calling out for the ancient Hebrew God.

Fast Cars:
Features arabic style drumming that gives way to marriachi rhythms.
Excellent energetic song and unusual for U2 to complete an album on
an upbeat note.

In the meantime, the band has lent its music for advertisment
purposes for the first time today. Vertigo is the backing track for
the latest iPod advert, which also features the band playing in

CD: First of all, I have to say thank you very much for inviting me to the south of France. Thank you. And we're back again talking about another new album. How does it compare to the last one, the new one?

Edge: I have to say right now, I think it's even better. When I was saying that we haven't made THE record, we've got close. I think we've got VERY close this time.

CD: Is it true your copy of the album got stolen?

Edge: Well, to be honest, it was the only copy we had. Basically, it was lifted. It wasn't the case of it being left on a bus or something. It was actually stolen...

Bono: Tell you what, the French police were really on it. I mean, the place was surrounded. They were coming out of helicopters. It was kinda Pink Panther. It was like (in heavy French accent) "Where were you, at two thirty? The Edge was in the car..." Kinda mad.

CD: The first single's going to be "Vertigo." Why did you choose that as the first single?

Bono: We needed a kind of, you know, an opening gambit, "Hello, hello, I'm at a place called Vertigo." And it was just that again, felt like the mood of the times. You know you feel like here we are at the pinnacle of whatever it is, capitalism, the 21st century, everyone feels a little like it's about to topple. (Holds arms up and wobbles from side to side.)

CD: So come on then, what do you think of the general state of music at the moment?

Edge: We were at the Q Awards, and the number of rock and roll bands in the category for new artists was great.

Bono: I feel nervous when I hear Coldplay. When I hear them on the radio, I go "Ooh" (exhales sharply), so that must mean they're really great. Franz Ferdinand, feel a little nervous, a little twitch.

CD: There's so many people in the industry that do hold you in such high esteem. People like Coldplay and Keane that literally turn round and go "Wow! U2 are amazing!" How does that feel to get rec...?

Edge: Really? Do they say that?

Bono: Edge just wants you to say that twice. The only people who have the confidence to praise the people that come before them are people who are very sure that they're going to pass you out, who, they should be confident, like the Killers should be confident, like Franz Ferdinand should be confident. But we are not going to make it easy for them. We're going to make their lives miserable for the next few years. Because, how embarrassing is it going to be in five years time if we're still the best band in the world?

CD: What about Westlife? What do you think they do for Irish music?

Bono: They're a boy band, we're a man band. What else is there to say?

Edge: I think if they're great songs, you can't really argue, you know...

Bono: I'll tell you one of my favourite songs, ever -- long-haired, blond-haired kids...

CD: Hanson!

Bono: Hanson

CD: Uh-wop...

Bono: This is one of my favourite songs of all time. They were an amazing band. Pop music is alright. It's just it's over there (gesticulates with left hand). It's not where we live.

CD: Are you going to tour with this album?

Edge and Bono: Yeah.

Edge: Yeah, definitely, it's going to be a good album to tour. It's certainly going to be next year.

CD: So will you be playing Glastonbury at all?

Bono: I think we're going to have to. I'm not sure it's going to be this next summer, but maybe the summer after. It's a...I'd love to be a part of that.

CD: What do you think about how obsessed everybody is with celebrity at the moment?

Edge: We're very lucky, actually, to be honest, because we're not, we're not in the tabloids as much as a lot of people might imagine.

Bono: It's the people who walk out of their hotel room with hoods over their head who really want the attention. It's the people who sit down and talk about how hard it is, the whinging rock stars and pop stars. They're the ones who think too much about it. I forget I'm in a band these days. I literally have no, I forget.

(Cut to Bono in passenger seat of lemon coloured open top car)
Bono (sings): A rock star is a person in your neighbourhood (waves to people in buildings lining streets). He's the kind that you meet when you're walking down the street.

Bono: I think celebrity is ridiculous, but it's currency, and I think we try to spend ours wisely. Which is why we do our political stuff, try to put it to some use. For all the work that I might be doing on Africa and AIDS emergency and all that stuff, that would be an amazing thing to be remembered for. And I want to spend my life outside of U2 working to that end. And I'll tell you what, it's not really where I want to be. This is where I want to be.

Edge: This is Bono's real day job. The other stuff is...

CD: His Saturday job, his paper round.

Bono: It is my paper round.

Adam: I think he's done amazing things, and, you know those things speak for themselves.

Larry: So, Bono, "This is Your Life" (mimes handing over the Red Book).

CD: First of all, I have to say thank you very much for inviting me to the south of France. Thank you. And we're back again talking about another new album. How does it compare to the last one, the new one?

Edge: I have to say right now, I think it's even better. When I was saying that we haven't made THE record, we've got close. I think we've got VERY close this time.

CD: Is it true your copy of the album got stolen?

Edge: Well, to be honest, it was the only copy we had. Basically, it was lifted. It wasn't the case of it being left on a bus or something. It was actually stolen...

Bono: Tell you what, the French police were really on it. I mean, the place was surrounded. They were coming out of helicopters. It was kinda Pink Panther. It was like (in heavy French accent) "Where were you, at two thirty? The Edge was in the car..." Kinda mad.

CD: The first single's going to be "Vertigo." Why did you choose that as the first single?

Bono: We needed a kind of, you know, an opening gambit, "Hello, hello, I'm at a place called Vertigo." And it was just that again, felt like the mood of the times. You know you feel like here we are at the pinnacle of whatever it is, capitalism, the 21st century, everyone feels a little like it's about to topple. (Holds arms up and wobbles from side to side.)

CD: So come on then, what do you think of the general state of music at the moment?

Edge: We were at the Q Awards, and the number of rock and roll bands in the category for new artists was great.

Bono: I feel nervous when I hear Coldplay. When I hear them on the radio, I go "Ooh" (exhales sharply), so that must mean they're really great. Franz Ferdinand, feel a little nervous, a little twitch.

CD: There's so many people in the industry that do hold you in such high esteem. People like Coldplay and Keane that literally turn round and go "Wow! U2 are amazing!" How does that feel to get rec...?

Edge: Really? Do they say that?

Bono: Edge just wants you to say that twice. The only people who have the confidence to praise the people that come before them are people who are very sure that they're going to pass you out, who, they should be confident, like the Killers should be confident, like Franz Ferdinand should be confident. But we are not going to make it easy for them. We're going to make their lives miserable for the next few years. Because, how embarrassing is it going to be in five years time if we're still the best band in the world?

CD: What about Westlife? What do you think they do for Irish music?

Bono: They're a boy band, we're a man band. What else is there to say?

Edge: I think if they're great songs, you can't really argue, you know...

Bono: I'll tell you one of my favourite songs, ever -- long-haired, blond-haired kids...

CD: Hanson!

Bono: Hanson

CD: Uh-wop...

Bono: This is one of my favourite songs of all time. They were an amazing band. Pop music is alright. It's just it's over there (gesticulates with left hand). It's not where we live.

CD: Are you going to tour with this album?

Edge and Bono: Yeah.

Edge: Yeah, definitely, it's going to be a good album to tour. It's certainly going to be next year.

CD: So will you be playing Glastonbury at all?

Bono: I think we're going to have to. I'm not sure it's going to be this next summer, but maybe the summer after. It's a...I'd love to be a part of that.

CD: What do you think about how obsessed everybody is with celebrity at the moment?

Edge: We're very lucky, actually, to be honest, because we're not, we're not in the tabloids as much as a lot of people might imagine.

Bono: It's the people who walk out of their hotel room with hoods over their head who really want the attention. It's the people who sit down and talk about how hard it is, the whinging rock stars and pop stars. They're the ones who think too much about it. I forget I'm in a band these days. I literally have no, I forget.

Bono (sings): A rock star is a person in your neighbourhood (waves to people in buildings lining streets). He's the kind that you meet when you're walking down the street.

Bono: I think celebrity is ridiculous, but it's currency, and I think we try to spend ours wisely. Which is why we do our political stuff, try to put it to some use. For all the work that I might be doing on Africa and AIDS emergency and all that stuff, that would be an amazing thing to be remembered for. And I want to spend my life outside of U2 working to that end. And I'll tell you what, it's not really where I want to be. This is where I want to be.

Edge: This is Bono's real day job. The other stuff is...

CD: His Saturday job, his paper round.

Bono: It is my paper round.

Adam: I think he's done amazing things, and, you know those things speak for themselves.

Larry: So, Bono, "This is Your Life" (mimes handing over the Red Book).

Será que o Edge vai cantar e o Larry fazer backing?

Nesse casa de additional é estilo o final de Stuck in a moment, um curto treixo de vocal, e o larry deve fazer um back bem baixo... ;)

O pessoal da U2portugal teve acesso ao album para ouví-lo e fizerem esses 2 reviews. Confesso que não fiquei nada empolgado.

Tozé Pinto:

Bom disco com o defeito de ser sobre-produzido, nada fácil excepto 3 ou 4 temas, mas um chamado "grower". Acredito que venha a gostar mais que do ATYCLB. De certa forma as canções são mais tipo as do Pop (menos redondas que as do ATYCLB) estando a diferença na produção. Imaginem as canções do Pop com os U2 a quererem soar a U2 vintage (leia-se 80s). Não será um novo AB, Boy ou TJT mas poderá estar a lutar pela Europa com o Pop, UF ou Zooropa (De referir que na ligilha da despromoção andam o October, War e R&H e o ATYCLB está tranquilo no meio da tabela). Nota importante: Esta foi a 4ª ou 5ª pré-audição que fiz de um álbum dos U2. Por experiência sei que me engano por vezes (temas "fracos" que são clássicos e "clássicos" que são medianos). A primeira vez que ouvi o AB adorei o disco mas o tema que bateu menos foi o One. Penso que está tudo dito. Façam como eu. Esperem + 2/3 semanas pelo leak. Comprem o disco a 22 e até ao Natal teremos todos mais um grande disco! Tudo o que vêm a seguir foram as minhas notas a quente durante a primeira audição.

VERTIGO
Igual à versão do single. A grande malha que todos conhecemos.

MIRACLE DRUG
Intro à UF (strings) com batida "cardíaca" tipo BD. Grande baixo, break com big piano à NYD. Open sound (TUF/TJT) mas pouca canção (refrão frouxo). O Solo é tipo o do EBTTRT em câmara lenta. Bom final. Será um grower?

SOMETIMES YOU CAN'T MAKE IT ON YOUR OWN
Balada à U2. (UAU. Esta é BOA!) Riff refrão do Ultraviolet na parte do refrão. Guitarra de fundo à velvet dress. Têm parte épica tipo o Woman das Salomé tapes.

LOVE & PEACE
Intro industrial-electro em crescendo passando para batida marcial com baixo pesado, tipo Nine Inch Nails por (ex: Personal Jesus). Bom refrão e grande guitarrada (não soa nada a U2). Bom live track.

CITY OF BLINDING LIGHTS
Inicio tipo álbum UF (outra vez) passando para uma parte tipo Streets (por ir crescendo) com baixo do Wild Horses, no final fica meio psicadélica (não tocam isto ao vivo na BBC) e talvez a melhor parte da musica. Não é um clássico mas poderá ser um grower.

ALL BECAUSE OF YOU
Inicio com distorção. Um grande tema rock no limite do plagio dos The Who (Won't Get Fooled Again). Refrão forte e o break é uma grande desbunda rock. Grande tema ao vivo.

A MAN AND A WOMAN
Musica "mid-tempo" com refrão fraco mas que tem um final giro. Há uma parte que me faz lembrar um tema dum chunga (direi qual quando todos tiverem ouvido o disco)

CRUMBS FROM YOUR TABLE
O tema mais fraco do disco. Muito confuso. Deveria ser um lado B ou trocar com o Fast Cars.

ONE STEP CLOSER
Grande tema. O slow não comercial habitual dos discos dos U2 (Ref: The First Time, Grace ou baladas dos Passengers). Produção muito subtil. Sem duvida das melhores do disco.

ORIGINAL OF THE SPECIES
Outra dos bons temas de HTDAAB. Mid-tempo mas com um refrão mto bom, faz lembrar os Beatles da fase Hello Goodbye\I am the Walrus\MMTour e vai ser boa ao vivo.

YAHWEH
Diz-se "iauei". Épica mas sinceramente à primeira audição das mais fracas.

FAST CARS
Grande malha! A prova que não são precisos 8 produtores e 3 anos para se ter um bom tema rock, exótico meio arábe e pop ao mesmo tempo. Potencial highlight ao vivo. É uma vergonha não vir no disco.

Em Benfica, nas instalações da Universal, as pessoas vão chegando. A recepção vai ficando cada vez mais ‘animada’. Da sala de audição, começam a ouvir-se alguns dos hits dos U2...mas a atenção não é muita. Afinal, estamos ali com um objectivo muito mais empolgante: tentar descobrir ‘Como Desmantelar Uma Bomba’. A sala parecia pequena para as cerca de 50 pessoas, mas lá se acomodaram. O ambiente a meia luz permite melhor visualização da imagem projectada na parede: a capa oficial de HTDAAB.Todos a pronto, silêncio absoluto...Roy Flaming tem a palavra. Roy Flaming, elemento da Universal Londres, faz uma pequena apresentação do novo álbum...e cá vamos nós.‘Lights go down’...e é projectado o DVD Single.

DVD Single – Imagens que nos são tão familiares, lá estão. U2 em terras portuguesas...ao som do maravilhoso mix de Jacknife Lee....peca mesmo por ser tão ‘curto’! Posto isto...silêncio...é How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb

VERTIGO
Palavras para quê? Esta faixa é já tão nossa conhecida. Guitarras à solta, um riff muito punk...esta grande malha é a carta de apresentação do álbum....e talvez também a música com mais pedalada do mesmo.

MIRACLE DRUG
Início calmo, com um crescendo notório que se contém num refrão harmonioso. O orgão e a batería marcam o passo. A voz de Bono mostra-se ousada e confidente. A guitarra de Edge faz lembrar Even Better Than The Real Thing. A canção parte em direcção à raiva total, com um fim apoteótico. Grand finale!!!

SOMETIMES YOU CAN’T MAKE IT ON YOUR OWN
Inicialmente ‘Tough’, esta faixa arranca com uma linha de baixo bem forte e definida. A voz sentida de Bono não disfarça a inspiração desta faixa. Um pré refrão em falseto, quase em tom de confissão (‘It’s you when I look in the mirror, it’s you when I pick up the phone’), faz com que a faixa pareça pronta a arrancar em direcção a um ritmo forte e arrojado.O twist final acaba num registo vocal alto e sentido....’a house doesn’t make a home.’

LOVE AND PEACE
Início perturbante e distorcido, sintetizadores fazem a 4ª faixa do álbum ter um cheiro diluído de dance...mas o rasgo da batería conduz a uma direcção distinta, levando-a a uma batida blues/rock. A voz de Bono mantém-se num registo confortável, com algumas subidas pontuais. A guitarra de Edge, característica, assemelha-se a arranjos electrónicos. Perto do fim, o ritmo abranda num tom semelhante ao da entrada sinistra...para terminar em grande.

CITY OF BLINDING LIGHTS
Como já tem sido falado, esta faixa tem traços acentuados de Unforgetable Fire.O crescendo da batería de larry dá-lhe uma vida muito semelhante a Streets. Parte da letra parece-me diferente da ouvida ao vivo...e o final é diferente da que se ouve por aí. No desenvolver, parece conter-se duas ou três vezes...mas acaba por rasgar sem receios num final extendido Piano e linha de baixo bem definidos marcam o ritmo.

ALL BECAUSE OF YOU
Grande início...com um cheiro muito acentuado a Joshua Tree. A batida faz lembrar vagamente All Along The Watchtower. A guitarra ousada de Edge caracteriza esta música casual, tornando-a U2niana. É uma grande ‘malha’, com a garra usual da banda. A voz de Bono é puxada, em especial no refrão, onde atinge um registo alto.

A MAN AND A WOMAN
Introdução acústica mas ritmada. É uma balada diferente das baladas clássicas. Provavelmente, será uma das preferidas das senhoras! Linha simples de baixo, ritmo e voz, pouca guitarra...abre e fecha com chave de ouro.

CRUMBS FROM YOUR TABLE
Uma música muito contida, sem grandes rasgos...! Veia acentuada do Edge...mas com uma guitarra semi sintetizada....termina numa batida confusa e forte, quase sem nexo...uma harmonia confusa.

ONE STEP CLOSER
Mais uma balada claramente associada com a morte de Bob Hewson. Início simples e nada pretencioso. Música numa linha muito ‘low profile’ do princípio ao fim.

ORIGINAL OF THE SPECIES
Calma, o início recorda-me o som de uma caixa de música. Som em registo melancólico preenche um crescendo até ao refrão! Evita a ‘explosão’, mantendo-se numa batida comfortável. O refrão é a mais valia desta faixa, com a voz de Bono num registo alto e sentido.

YAHWEH
O refrão faz pensar que o cantor suplica ao Deus hebreu por respostas e soluções. Muito provavelmente, influenciada pelas causas pelas quais o cantor tanto tem lutado. É sentida e profunda...demais para interpretar com uma única audição.

FAST CARS
É a música mais inovadora de todo o álbum. Imaginem um Misterious Ways mixado com o Jaleo de Ricky Martin...os sons orientais...é sem dúvida um grande tema! Contendo a linha ‘How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb’ e sendo sem dúvida o tema que mais se destaca do todo…só é pena ter ficado de fora na versão standard do álbum!

CONCLUSÃO: Acho que a banda foi ousada ao comparar este álbum a AB. Tem traços muito acentuados de The Joshua Tree, partes de Unforgetable Fire. Sente-se que foi fruto de várias mãos. Mas acredito também que é um daqueles álbuns que tem que ser ouvido mais que uma vez para interiorizar e apreciar.Faltam menos de 30 dias...and counting!

De acordo com esses fãs e com todas os jornalistas que tiveram acesso ao álbum, Fast Cars vai ser uma perda terrível, então... Se uma música com tanto potencial é cortada, ou as outras faixas são muito boas ou são tão chatinhas que até uma B-side é melhor.

Mas só acredito ouvindo... falta menos de um mês! :rolleyes:

GRANDE ESTOIRO DE ROCK

É um dos mais aguardados lançamentos do ano e a expectativa justifica-se em pleno. "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb", o novo álbum do U2, com data de edição a 22 de Novembro, é, de fato, um dos melhores discos da carreira do quarteto irlandês.

Décimo primeiro registo de estúdio, "How To Dismantle...." foi ontem apresentado à Imprensa portuguesa. Um acontecimento que trouxe até nós o diretor de marketing da "major" Universal e que obrigou a "extraordinárias" medidas de segurança: telefones móveis e todo e qualquer "digital device" tinham de ficar de fora, não fosse algum "pirata" tecê-las.

"Vertigo", o single de apresentação abre o disco e dá o mote. Este é um álbum onde a guitarra é quem mais ordena. E os exemplos abundam, com The Edge em maior ou menor destaque. A surpresa maior é que o U2 volta a soar como há 20 anos, simples, crus e com tonalidades e ambiências que remontam a "Boy" ou "October". Aliás, Bono, no curto documentário que antecedeu a audição, esclarecia. "Este é o primeiro álbum". "Vertigo", a palavra, estava já lá, nos primeiros singles. Tratou-se, pois, de recuperar as premissas básicas das origens.

Apesar da produção global ser de Steve Lillywhite, várias canções foram "trabalhadas" sob o controlo técnico de outros profissionais. São os casos de Daniel Lanois, Flood, Chris Thomas e Brian Eno que, de parceria com Lanois, "assina" um dos melhores temas do disco, "Love And Peace Or Else", um assomo industrial que evolui para um refrão "catchy" e culmina num ritmo avassalador. Esta é, de resto, uma das "marcas" da nova "bomba U2", um quase permanente crescendo de intensidade que confere a "How To Dismantle..." um invulgar carácter épico.

A espaços há arranjos mais ambiciosos, canções mais delicadas (A Man And A Woman e One Step Closer), outras talhadas para os estádios da digressão de 2005, que passa por Portugal em finais de Julho ou início de Agosto, segundo o diretor de marketing da editora.

Pena mesmo é que o tema bônus, "Fast Cars", um dos mais vibrantes do disco, com laivos de flamenco e onde figura a linha "How to dismantle an atomic bomb", não venha a constar no alinhamento europeu.

Em termos de objetos eletrônicos, todos sabem que o Japão sai na frente, com muito mais tecnologia. Um CD feito no Japão traz um fio de ouro que aumenta a qualidade e a durabilidade do áudio em dezenas de vezes, portanto, um CD japonês custa muito mais caro que um CD americano, europeu ou brasileiro.

Mas, quando o assunto é grana, claro que o público irá atrás do mais barato, seja aqui ou em qualquer outro lugar do mundo. Como as gravadoras não querem perder o mercado japonês, que é um dos maiores do mundo, e não poderia produzir lá o mesmo disco que é produzido aqui, pois o público certamente iria comprar em outro lugar, mais barato, o que a gravadora faz: abastece as edições japonesas com itens especiais, faixas bônus exclusivas, faixas multimídia, e o que mais pudermos imaginar, para chamar a atenção do público.

Pelo que ta escrito na revista vai ser "audio streams" ou seja, igual a MTV faz com alguns lançamentos, botar streaming das músicas durante um tempo e tirar fora do ar. Lembro de quando eles tocaram na BBC Radio 1 ao vivo em Outubro de 2000, tive a cara de pau de dar uma de dodói :rolleyes: e faltar ao trabalho pra assistir ao webcast...emoções, emoções :P Adoro os mp3s dessa performance, uma ótima forma de se ouvir as músicas ao vivo sem a o barulho da galera, muito bom. :sim:

Segundo o site da Uol, o U2 não adiantará o lançamento do album por causa do vazamento na internet, a data continua sendo 22 de novembro.

O site diz ainda que as gravadoras contra-atacam, enviando às rádios e a jornalistas cópias promocionais que não podem ser copiadas e contratando firmas para inundar as redes de partilha de arquivos (Kazaa, eMule e outros) com faixas "falsas" com má qualidade de som, faixas essas que ocupam o espaço que ficaria para versões piratas de som melhor.
